How to Install Windows XP

Make sure your computer can handle Windows XP before going any further. Find out the requirement for your computer to accommodate the program. An older, low memory computer does not work well with Windows XP.
Step2
Buy the version of Windows XP that matches your installation method. If you already have Windows, you need an upgrade. If not, buy the full version. Windows will ask if it is an upgrade or a full installation.
Step3
Turn off the computer, and then place the XP program in the CD drive. Turn the computer back on and the operating system will begin the installation process. You can choose a new or upgraded installation.
Step4
Upgrade your current Windows version to XP. This choice adds what you need to effectively run Windows XP to certain aspects of your old Windows operating system.
Step5
Find your old Windows CD and product key. You must use this to show you are upgrading. Get the most recent BIOS upgrade for your computer from the manufacturer. Some features offered with Windows XP will not accept the older programming for your computer.
Step6
Open the old Windows program and choose "Update." Close all programs including your gateway to the Internet, but allow the Microsoft firewall to continue to work. Install the full program by following the information in Step 3, but create a new operating system set up. Always follow the instructions on the screen.

How to Install Novell 5.0

1 This procedure assumes starting with an unpartitioned fixed disk and a 3-com NIC.

Insert Novell 5.0 Server CD-Rom and restart the computer.

When the language selection screen appears, select English.

Accept the license agreement.
Step2
Create a new partition.

Select ‘Modify’ and set the boot partition size to 500Mb and continue.

When asked, “Are you sure?” select ‘Yes’ and continue to reboot.

How to Install PHP 5 on Windows XP

1 Download the install file from the PHP website. A link to this site is located in the resources section of this article.
Step2
Make a directory on your computer for PHP 5 . Open the folder you want to want to save the directory in. Right-click in the open window. Click "New Folder." Name the folder "PHP" or "php5." For example "c:\php5." Substitute your directory for "c:\php5" whenever it appears in this article.
Step3
Locate and move the files from the sub directory Windows created for PHP in Step1 to the directory created in Step 2. Windows normally places the files in "php-5.x.x-Win32." To move the files, click "Edit" and then click "Select All." To copy the files, right-click and choose "Copy" or hold down the "Ctrl" key and the "C" key at the same time. Open your new directory, c:\php5. Hold down the "Ctrl" key and the "V" key at the same time or right-click and choose "Paste."
Step4
Find the file "php.ini-recommended" in the directory. Open the file in Notepad. Replace the following if they are not correct. Look for "error_reporting" and change it to "error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE." If your scripts don't work as intended, locate "register_globals" and change it to "register_globals = On." Find "register_argc_argv" and change it to "register_argc_argv = On." If your scripts pass information in strings like index.php?var1=value1&var2=value2, replace "doc_root" with the path to your Apache web directory. For example, "doc_root = C:\Apache2\htdocs." Find 'extension_dir"' and change it to 'extension_dir = "C:\php5\ext".' The SMTP line needs to read "SMTP = smtp.yourISP.com."
Step5
Save the edited file in the PHP 5 directory. For example, save as "php.ini" in "c:php5."

How to Avoid Computer Problems

Step1
Keep things simple and uncluttered. Some examples of what not to do include: downloading games and never using them, having both demo and full version applications, downloading every tool bar imaginable on your browser, having four different browsers installed, setting "load on startup" for every program imaginable, etc. In general, things that make no sense that 95% of users fall guilty to at some point in time.

Have firewall and antivirus software, both of which should be up-to-date. This will help prevent you from getting any pesky viruses from email attachments, website bugs, and other harmful files on the Internet. This is especially important with the majority of people sporting cable modems in which you are online ALL the time.
Step3
Back up your data. This is the piece of advice everyone makes that very few people actually accomplish. Backing up data includes saving your most important files and storing it safe in some physical format: an external hard drive, CD's, and flash drives are good examples. Although you may never need to use your backup, when an emergency arises you can rest assured your passwords, membership information, and other important documents are saved.

Shut down your computer properly or don't turn it off at all. Either option is better then the latter: shutting down in the middle of a computer process. By shutting down your computer improperly, you cause files not to be placed where they are supposed to, and cause your hard drive to defragment which causes gradual slowdown, and eventually even the possibility of application failures.
Step5
Unnecessary accessory programs such as Internet speed boosters, Yahoo tool bars, and the like should not be downloaded. Not only are most of them a waste of space, but tool bars specifically can conflict with one another if too many are downloaded. This causes slowdown, glitches, and errors to occur. This also is a problem with other programs such as browsers or graphic editing programs such as Photoshop. By having more then one of any kind of premium software, you run the risk of having them conflict with each other. This causes glitches and errors in your system and your applications.

How to create an Apple Wireless computer to computer network

Turn on the Airport feature on each of the Macs that you wish to include in your wireless computer to computer network. To do this, click on the Airport icon found in the upper right hand corner of the Apple menu bar.

The Airport icon/symbol will have a different appearance depending upon whether your Mac's Airport is ON, OFF or or CONNECTED (joined) to a network. See accompanying image for a representation of each symbol and its meaning.

Choose one Mac to be the "host" of your computer to computer network. If you wish to share a wired internet connection, it should be the Macintosh computer connected to the internet. On that computer, click on the Airport icon in the menu bar and choose the "Create Network..." option from the list of choices.

In the window that appears, enter a name for your new wireless network (for this example, use "My-1st-Network"). You can leave the channel setting at the default setting (11), unless you have a good reason to change it. If you wish to require a password in order for a computer to join your new network (recommended), check the "Require Password" option.
Step5
Choose a password. Depending upon the level of security that you desire (40-bit WEP or 128-bit WEP), your password will have to be either 5 characters long (40-bit) or 13 characters long (128-bit). Enter your password in the two fields found in the window. Once your have done this (and they match exactly), the "Ok" button will become available. Click it.
Step6
Once you click the "Ok" button, your Mac will create your network. You will know that your network has been created once the Airport icon in the menu bar changes to have a dark background and an icon of a small Mac appears inside it. See accompanying image to view an example.
Step7
Now that your network has been created, you can now join other Macs to the network. To do this, click on the Airport icon in the menu bar of the participating Mac and select the network named "My 1st Network". If applicable, enter the password when prompted.
Step8
In order to share files, make sure all computers participating on the network have "File Sharing" turned on. This option can be found in the "Sharing" section of your Mac's System Preferences. See accompanying image for this step.
Step9
Congratulations! You created your first wireless computer-to-computer network. Repeat these steps for each Mac that you wish to include.

How to Build a Motherboard

1 Select the right size motherboard. If you are upgrading your current motherboard, your primary concern is the power source. You need the pins on your power source to match the output on the motherboard. Keep in mind that even if you want to buy a much larger motherboard than your computer used previously, you can always upgrade the power source, too. Different kinds of motherboards include ATX and microATX. This is the base foundation for you creating your motherboard.
Step2
Install your processor. The documentation that comes with your processor gives you more detail, but this is generally pretty easy. You lift the lever that allows you to place your processor into its sockets, lower the processor into the sockets and replace the lever.
Step3
Connect the IDE or SATA cables to your internal hard drive and any other peripherals you are using. Be sure you're using the right ones. Look at the connector on your internal hard drive. IDE cables have 16 bits and are long ribbon-like cables. If the internal hard drive needs a long 16-bit connector, use this. An SATA cable is a serial cable that uses 1.5 or 3.0 Gbits. You need to use this cable if your internal hard drive has eight prongs that need connected.
Step4
Install the chipsets and memory chips by inserting them on the memory modules. This is one of the best parts of building your own hard drive. You get to decide how much memory you will have. Your computer runs faster with more memory. The more bits you install on your motherboard, the more RAM memory you can install on your motherboard. You do have to have built your motherboard to accommodate the amount of memory you need, so make sure you install a large enough system chipset to meet your needs.
Step5
Plug in your video card. These go into your PCI/PCI Express slots. Most really good motherboards have places for more than one video card. The better the video card you use, the better performance you'll get when playing games and using other graphics-intense programs.
Step6
Ensure your cooling devices are working, because motherboards get very hot. Cooling fans are very popular, but you may want to look into more complicated methods such as watercooling.
Step7
Slide your motherboard into your computer's case. Connect the power source to the motherboard via the pin outs.

Open my computer fast

When you open My Computer, you get a waiting icon and takes sometime to open. This is usually the case with the machines which have low specifications (starting P4s or lower). This is because whenever you open My Computer, it searches for network folders and printers and shared files for scheduled tasks. To make explorer stop seraching for those tasks by default, there are two tweaks to be applied. Firstly Open My Computer –> Tools –> Folder Options –> View –> Uncheck “Automatically search for network files and folders”. Now Windows Explorer will not search for network files and folders by default.

Secondly, go to Run –> regedit –> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE –> Software –> Microsoft –> Windows –> Current Version –> Explorer –> RemoteComputer –> NameSpace
In the Right Hand pane, find the value {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}. If it exists, delete it. This is for searching for files for scheduled tasks. So it will not search for scheduled tasks once this value is deleted.
